Latest NewsBBA Buildoffsite Seminar at Offsite 2007 (07 June 2007)
Offsite construction is a hot topic in today’s industry and of course third-party approval is a requirement of many key decision-makers in the industry.
The BBA’s Agrément Certificates for building systems are well known and respected by offsite producers who are looking for design flexibility that allows approval to be continued without the constraints demanded so far.
A method of squaring this particular circle will be covered at a special Buildoffsite Registration Scheme seminar at the BBA offices on 12th June, coinciding with the Offsite 2007 Conference and exhibition held at the BRE.
The Buildoffsite Registration Scheme is an evaluation of the control measures established by a service provider to mitigate the risks to the safe and competent provision of offsite activities and services.
The aim of the scheme is to provide confidence to client organisations, end users and insurers of the standardisation of best practice in the provision of offsite services and activities when undertaken by a registered service provider.
The scheme will be operated by Lloyd’s Register EMEA and the BBA will be providing assessment and inspection services in relation to offsite constructors.
The presentation will provide an overview of the scheme and include the following:
Offsite 2007 (11th - 14th June) on the BRE site at Garston, home also to the BBA laboratories and offices, is to be a showcase of modern building techniques and systems.
As may be expected, many of the show houses incorporate BBA approved products, or are in fact BBA approved building systems.
Included in the latter is the Osborne house incorporating a Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS) from Vencel Resil.
Other BBA approved products are featured in the Hanson House, incorporating Thermalite thin-joint blockwork and Hollowcore flooring.
Other houses incorporate BBA approved insulation and roofing products.
Several BBA Certificate holders were also exhibiting in the exhibition hall accompanying the show and we will be presenting BBA Certificates to Irish Insulated Concrete Formwork producer Eurozone and Novabrik on the ICFA and Buildoffsite stands respectively.
Pennine Stone receives BBA Approval (07 June 2007)
Pennine Stone has become the only cast stone company to be awarded a Certificate from the British Board of Agrément (Certificate No 07/4425).
The company received the Certificate for TecCast Architectural Cast Stone - incorporating the unique TecCast manufacturing process to create a range of products including window heads and sills, door surrounds and cornices. In addition to improving the appearance of properties, a 2006 survey conducted by Ipsos MORI for the United Kingdom Cast Stone Association (UKCSA), showed cast stone architectural features increased property value.
Managing Director of Pennine Stone, Bob Faulding, said: ‘We are delighted to be the only cast stone manufacturer to receive BBA accreditation. I am sure that the awarding of the Certificate will inspire further confidence in us from our existing clients and hopefully encourage many more potential customers to use Pennine Stone in the future.’ PUURFECT QUALITY CONFIRMATION FOR KAT UK (07 June 2007) KAT UK is celebrating its successful accreditation from the British Board of Agrément (Certificate No 06/4399).
The award of this industry recognised quality accolade confirms and further enhances KAT UK’s reputation in the market place as one of the UK’s leading suppliers of quality specialist windows and doors. KAT UK’s Technical Manager, Dave Morgan explains: ‘We were already manufacturing to exacting standards, so the Agrément Certificate simply gives our products a further quality guarantee. It confirms that our products are ‘fit for purpose’, therefore giving customers absolute confidence in their performance.’ As one of the very few sash window manufacturers to hold BBA Certification KAT UK will now have an even greater advantage over some of its competitors who cannot provide acceptable certificated guarantees for specifiers and organisations such as the NHBC. The technical approval process involved three distinct areas. Firstly, rigorous laboratory testing at BBA’s UKAS test house, which involved weather testing, cycle endurance testing and a human intervention security test. This was followed by a full factory audit by the BBA’s own inspection services, which covered every process from receipt of order and goods inward through to final quality control, inspection, packaging and labelling – all of which was audited against the agreed and approved quality plan. Thirdly, factory production control which involves regular calibration and testing of tape measures, combination squares, checks of temperature on weld heads and weld testing, compliance with approved work instructions, full traceability and continuous control of manufactured product and final record retention. Dave Morgan continues: ‘It is very pleasing to see our team working consistently to a high standard, producing products that are right first time with the added assurance for our customers that it is backed up with a third-party technical approval in the form of the Agrément Certificate’.
