Latest NewsBBA TESTING GAINS KEYMARK REGISTRATION (19 March 2008)
BBA Testing Services has been registered to undertake testing in accordance with the EU-wide Keymark Scheme for thermal insulation products. The BBA has the only commercially run laboratory in the UK that can do this work.
To gain the necessary accreditation, the BBA Testing Services team has had to meet a number of exacting standards, including working to extremely close tolerances on test equipment, demonstrating expertise in testing and ensuring the laboratory itself was accredited to the EN ISO 17025 Standard (introduced to make certain that accredited laboratories across the EU work to common standards of competence and calibration).
The Keymark — a voluntary certification scheme is a top-up to the requirements of the European Standards for insulation, involving a third party accredited laboratory in initial type and audit testing. Assuming all is well, the manufacturer can use the Keymark in literature and promotional material as additional proof to customers of the quality and provenance of test data.
ENVIROBED HA104 GAINS BBA APPROVAL (19 March 2008)
Envirobed is now fully approved by BBA/HAPAS as part of Ultracrete’s Ironwork Reinstatement System (Certificate No 05/H104).
Instarmac Group PLC has developed and launched an entirely new high strength, rapid setting cement based mortar — Ultracrete Envirobed HA104. The new material is based upon the latest cement technology, and is the forerunner of the next generation of environmentally friendly alternatives to resinous-based materials for the bedding of ductile ironwork conforming to the DTI Design Manual for Roads and Bridges ‘Mortars for bedding ironwork to BS EN 124’.
The material can also be used in wet weather and is claimed to be much less hazardous than the traditional polyester resin based materials and there are no ‘special waste disposal’ costs with regard to the disposal of the used packaging. Envirobed HA104 is also part of a full Instarmac system for bedding ironwork covers. As such, it eliminates any possibility of split liability disputes often experienced when separate proprietary products are employed.
BBA CERTIFICATE FOR NBT ROOF INSULATION (18 March 2008)
NBT roof insulation from Natural Building Technologies has successful received BBA approval – Certificate No 07/4448. The certificated high performance systems, incorporating Pavatherm Plus Insulation and Isolair Insulation, wood-fibre insulation for pitched roofs.
The systems offer exceptional overheating prevention control in addition to thermal insulation properties, and form a complete thermal shell, providing good levels of wind and airtightness, and help to reduce cold bridging.
The wood-fibre boards enable the roof to 'breathe' in terms of expelling water vapour to the external atmosphere, which greatly reduces any risk of interstitial condensation causing damage to the building fabric. Also, through this prevention of condensation and mould growth, the breathability of the building envelope can contribute to creating a healthier internal environment. The boards also offer acoustic insulation and help to reinforce a building's environmental credentials.
