According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), slips, trips and falls accounted for 29% of the 69,000 non-fatal injuries occurring in the workplace, and this represents a significant health and safety concern. At the BBA we work with floor manufacturers to measure the slip or skid resistance of a surface with pendulum test BS 7976-2. This test can help to determine the Slip Resistance Value (SRV) or Pendulum Test Value (PTV) for a floor surface.
Our UKAS-accredited Testing Laboratory (No0357) we offer slip resistance testing to a wide range of British and European standards, helping to establish how a material behaves in both dry and wet conditions. We undertake on-site testing to ensure that flooring products maintain their performance characteristics throughout the lifecycle of the floor—allowing manufacturers to meet slip resistance requirements at the end of life in addition to when first installed.
Additionally, through our extensive weathering and accelerated ageing capabilities, the BBA can investigate how the slip resistance of a material changes due to external factors such as abrasion or chemical exposure.
Avoiding the potential for slipping on floors and surfaces is a critical consideration for product manufacturers, specifiers, contractors and facilities management companies; therefore it is imperative to ensure that your products are tested by the best.
