About the Company

Polyfoam XPS specialises in the manufacturing of:

  • A range of roofboard for thermal insulation in inverted roofs,
  • A range of floorboards for thermal insulation of ground floors, and
  • Laminating boards for a wide variety of manufacturing processes and applications

Polyfoam XPS can be used in a variety of varied settings including ground floors, inverted flat roofs, swimming pools, basements and refrigerated vans.

Benefits of the product include high compressive strength, resistance to moisture and repeated freeze thaw cycles. When used in ground floor build-ups with product can be used below the Damp Proof Membrane.

Due to the unique characteristics of XPS, the product can be used in inverted flat roofs, where the insulation is positioned on the outside of the primary waterproofing.

Their Challenge

Throughout the history of Polyfoam XPS Limited, great importance has been placed on quality and third-party certification. A key element of this focus on third party certification is maintaining Agrement Certificates to demonstrating the use of products.

Why BBA?

Feedback on Agrément certification was that the certification of Polyfoam XPS has demonstrated the quality of the product and provides reassurances to customers of what they are getting. BBA certification is specifically asked for by specifiers as a quality and assurance indicator.”

He added that a third-party BBA certification helps Polyfoam XPS demonstrate quality to system holders in roofing and also with ground floor specifiers.  Although there are other competitors in the market for an Agrément certificate, BBA certification is:

  1. Long established
  2. Well respected in the marketplace
  3. Well recognised as a quality driver.

How did BBA certification help?

As XPS is a material with high compressive strength, tolerance of moisture and freeze thaw cycles, it is key to demonstrate these characteristics independently. Testing at the BBA allows Polyfoam XPS to achieve this in addition to managing continued product performance improvements.

How the BBA performed?

“Working with the BBA was an extremely thorough process. With a single BBA point of contact, all queries were dealt with efficiently, making the entire process easier to coordinate,” says Robert Firman, Technical and Specification Manager at Polyfoam XPS.
