Members of LCRIG, the Local Council Roads Innovation Group, have fast-track access to the technical expertise and knowledge of HAPAS owner/operator the British Board of Agrément (BBA) following an announcement that it has joined the group as an affiliate member.

The move has been welcomed by both organisations as an opportunity to further build relationships in the sector through ideas and information sharing and on-going development of innovative new highway products.
“Joining LCRIG as an affiliate member offers the BBA a great opportunity to liaise with like-minded people dedicated to driving up standards in the sector,” said Surinder Samra, Technical and Business Development Manager – HAPAS. “The success of HAPAS is underpinned by its unrivalled and rigorous test methods for products/systems and its close ties with stakeholders, including Highways England. Joining the LCRIG community is an important step in ensuring we continue to work in partnership with all sectors of what is a highly technical industry.”

Will Britain, President of LCRIG, said: “We are delighted to welcome the BBA as an affiliate member. We look forward to working with it in support of LCRIG’s commitment to facilitate communication, collaboration and innovation throughout the highways community. Many of our members will be familiar with the work of the BBA, which plays an important role in instilling confidence in the products, services and systems implemented throughout the entire highways supply chain.

It is 23 years since the first HAPAS certificate was issued and the scheme now works across some 25 different sectors within the highways industry. Although owned and operated by the BBA, its value lies in close relationships with, and support from, the UK highways industry, particularly guidance received from the HiTAC technical advisory committee which includes representatives from Highways England, ADEPT, TAG, HTMA, RSTA, HTMA, MPA, CECA and the Pipes Group. In addition, specialist groups comprising technical experts from all parts of the industry cover different product areas. HAPAS’s clear, consistent, rigorous and strict test methods for certificating products and systems lead the way in providing definitive guidance to local authorities, specifiers and contractors.

Added Surinder: “Since the creation of the BBA HAPAS certification scheme it has been our ongoing objective to develop national approval, assessment, testing and certification for innovative products, materials and systems in the highways sector, all of which we continue to deliver today. Working with LCRIG and its members means that we can continue to keep abreast of industry developments and requirements and cater to our clients in a more efficient way, adding value and helping them achieve their product development goals through certification.”
