The British Board of Agrément (BBA) is proud to recognise the achievements of all the recipients of recent awards, which mark a significant milestone for the companies involved and reflect their ongoing commitment to drive quality and safety across the construction sector.

Recent months have seen a notable rise in the introduction of pioneering products aimed at enhancing sustainability and efficiency within the built environment. The BBA is committed to playing its part in enabling innovation whilst ensuring that certified solutions are fit-for-purpose for their intended application.

When introducing an innovation to the market, one of the challenges for manufacturers is understanding which standards and performance their product must achieve. This is where the BBA Agrément’s approach of assessing fitness-for-purpose can assist. The assessment process determine the performance expectations for the product, technology or process, its intended use and potential application(s). This will ensure the distinctiveness of the innovation is fully understood and will provide invaluable insight of associated performance benchmarks. The framework of assessment required is guided by the BBA technical team, based on the team’s knowledge of how the new material needs to perform, and how the material’s structure is likely to impact on its performance relative to the traditional product. This will include details of what additional evidence is required to verify and validate the performance claims, providing tangible outputs for both the innovator and the market.

BBA Sales, Marketing & Commercial Director, Katy Roberts commented:

Our sector, much like many others, is in need of improved ways for innovators to bring products to market; un-certified, un-assessed, un-qualified products potentially bring significant risk to quality and safety. That’s why the BBA is encouraged by the number of organisations in the innovation space, choosing certification as a critical part of their go-to-market strategy, and is thrilled to be able to play a part in that process.”

Among the most recent certifications are:

  • Kenoteq K-Briq  – a sustainable building brick made from over 90% recycled construction and demolition waste.
  • Heidelberg SAMI Layer – an interlayer system designed to improve pavement durability and longevity.
  • UK Road Patch – a multi-layered patch to cover standard pothole repairs which providers a barrier to mechanical damage and the elements.
