The BBA’s CEO provides an update on the year that’s passed.
As we close out 2025, I would like to thank you for your continued support of the BBA. Our ambition remains to provide you with a premier certification experience in a user-friendly environment. This continues to be a journey for us, and I thank you for your feedback along the way.
In 2024, I shared my reflections on the significant transformation that the BBA has undergone since 2020, and I am proud of the achievements to date. There is however more to do, creating a fully digitised infrastructure for content capture as well as more effective distribution channels.
The BBA today
The BBA is in a strong position as we head into 2026. Our financial performance has improved significantly, supported by careful investments in technology and people. We have strengthened our cash position and have modernised our corporate structure to prepare for accelerated growth – whilst maintaining the impartiality and integrity that define us.
Coupled to this has been the continuous investment into critical digital infrastructure, initially to deliver overdue management tools but increasingly to create a state-of-the art platform for scaling. The BBA is now a data rich environment, designed to improve overall service levels to our clients.
The Evolution of the CPD Programme
Our CPD programme is designed to build understanding of the value of 3rd party certification and the role that Agrément plays in construction. To date, we have reached over 1,000 architects and specifiers across the UK. Due to substantial demand, a self-serve version has been launched, available on RIBA’s website. A version specific to manufacturers’ requirements is also available, with a Local Authority version to follow.
Why it matters to us
Safety in construction remains our highest priority. We know that the content of our certificates aids greatly in product selection and deciding fitness-for-purpose. But we would like to do more – one of our Grenfell lessons learnt is to not only improve the content of our certificates, but also the distribution of our product insight. Supporting effective decision-making, based on all the relevant information, is a priority for the BBA.
At a time when trading in construction materials can be challenging and markets appear tough; clients regularly share with us the value that BBA certification brings. As one of our clients said recently:
“Like all business owners at the moment we are fighting for survival, and our product has been copied, so we value our BBA certificate on our invention, setting us apart.”
What’s ahead for 2026?
Since 2016 – the year before Grenfell – the number of products certified has more than tripled. This was achieved by investing substantially in our processes, our digital infrastructure and our people. With further growth expected, our investment continues.
We are also focused on improving the client experience, planning to set benchmarks for effective communication and client care.
Thank you for being part of this journey and continuing to trust the BBA as your certification provider.
We wish you and your families a blessed Christmas and a successful 2026.
Regards
Hardy
