Nearly 50 Years of BBA Certification for IKO Plc

Form is temporary, class is permanent; an aphorism perfectly suited to IKO’s Hyload Original Damp-Proof Course System – the first product to receive a BBA Agrément Certificate. Certification was originally issued in 1967, and having been reviewed regularly in the ensuing 49 years, the system’s Certification remains valid.

The BBA presented IKO with a copy of the first certificate alongside the most recent one from 2015 (Agrément Certificate 95/3133). Andy Williamson, IKO UK Group Managing Director, said:

“BBA certification is recognised throughout the construction industry as a symbol of excellence and reassurance. It’s a third-party, independent guarantee of performance and we are delighted to celebrate this milestone with the BBA.”

It’s 50 years since the BBA was founded. During that time, its expertise has helped hundreds of companies realise potential in the competitive environment by offering approval, Certification and test services to manufacturers of products and systems supplying the construction industry.

BBA Certification is recognised by UK government departments and throughout the construction industry as a mark of quality, safety and reliability that a product is fit-for-purpose. Only products and systems that have passed a series of comprehensive assessments – including laboratory tests, on-site evaluations, quality management checks and inspections of production, are awarded an Agrément Certificate. Once a certificate has been issued, regular monitoring is carried out by the BBA to maintain its validity, followed by a comprehensive, three-yearly review.

John Albon, Head of Approvals – Construction Products at BBA said:

“IKO’s continued development of its Hyload damp-proof course system has ensured that BBA Agrément Certification has been maintained since the issue of the original Certificate in 1967. Hyload has, of course evolved over the years – to keep up with the changes in Building Regulations and Standards – and we look forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of continuous BBA Certification for this product next year.”
