For the British Board of Agrément (BBA), data is more than just information – it’s the foundation for the trust put in us by the construction sector. We handle vast amounts of data, some of which is highly sensitive. That’s why cyber security is a whole business priority. Our partners, clients, and the wider industry depend on it.

We’re proud to announce that, for the second consecutive year, the BBA has achieved Cyber Essentials Plus certification. This is no small feat as fewer than 34,000 companies in the UK hold this prestigious accreditation1. It’s a clear signal of our ongoing commitment to data security and privacy.

Cyber Essentials Plus is not just a badge. It’s a rigorous, independently assessed standard, accredited by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). It validates our efforts to maintain strong security practices, with continuous improvement and vigilance in the face of an aggressive threat landscape.

Recent high-profile cyber incidents, such as those affecting the Co-op and Marks & Spencer, are stark reminders of the risks organisations face. Cyber threats are evolving rapidly, and no sector is immune. At the BBA, we remain vigilant and proactive, recognising that threats can come from anywhere, at any time.

Security isn’t just about technology – it’s about people. That’s why we invest in ongoing cyber awareness training for all staff. Every team member plays a role in our defence strategy, from recognising phishing attempts to following best practices for data handling. This collective responsibility is key to maintaining strong security.

Martin Norfolk, Chief Information Officer at the BBA commented: “As a trusted source of data for the construction industry, our role is to ensure that the information we store and share is accurate, reliable, and secure. We’re delighted that our ongoing efforts have been recognised. By achieving Cyber Essentials Plus for a second year running the BBA is demonstrating our commitment to responsible data stewardship—one that the industry can continue to rely on.”
