Since 2020, the BBA has been on a mission for change: Improving the experience our clients have with us, and improving the way we work as a team. And the work, so far, is yielding results.

Which is why we are excited to announce that we have been nominated as finalist in the SME Hertfordshire Business Awards 2022 for Employer of the Year.

Why is this important?

For over 50 years, the BBA has employed exceptional people with skills and knowledge that truly sets the BBA apart as an industry leader in the world of construction product testing and certification; something we’re immensely proud of.  It is in the belief that we are made stronger by the people we are, that our process of transformation was kicked off to ensure that we become the best that we can be, to serve our industry in the best way we can.

First Steps: Moving to a New Space

Our commitment to starting a new chapter in the BBA’s story started with a changing of Head Office premises. It was important to us that our new home share the same values that are important to us, which is why selecting Croxley Park as our new home the perfect choice. The park uses 100% renewable energy, including the following environmentally-aware schemes:

  • Zero waste to landfill from 2012
  • 100% waste recycled
  • On-site food composting, cardboard bailing
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Park-wide car share scheme.
  • Charging points for electric vehicles

Not only were commitments to our environment key to deciding our new location, but we wanted our new space to be a space which encourages collaboration, reduces walls (literally, and figuratively), celebrates our diversity, and is an aesthetically-pleasing space which we are proud to work in, and host our clients.

We have subsequent plans to extend the continuity of these same values to our Liverpool office too.

The Awards

Now in its 4th year, the SME Hertfordshire Business Awards,  aims to ‘raise the profile of industrious, hardworking and enterprising SME’s locally’. Made up of 21 categories in total, all awards are judged by a panel of judges including Simon Hughes, of Taylor Walton Solicitors, Saffron Johnson, Ops Director of Watford & West Herts Chamber of Commerce, Chris Luff, CEO of Watford & West Hearts Chamber of Commerce and June Cory, CEO of My Mustard, a pay per click advertising agency based in Hertfordshire.

The pinnacle of the awards will take place at the Grand Celebration at the Langley Rooms on Thursday 29th September 2022.

Whilst we don’t expect to win, it will support us with our drive to become an Employer of Choice,” says Dawn Dobson, Head of HR at the BBA.
Our nomination for this award is one we are proud to achieve and would not be possible without the efforts of our people whose support we recognise for helping us to be finalists. We also wish the best of luck to our fellow competitors and look forward to hearing their stories in September.”

The six businesses who are on the shortlist for Employer of the Year, include:

  • British Board of Agrément
  • Carbon Rewind
  • Drinkstuff
  • Flourish Craft Bakery
  • Kestronics
  • Redsquid
