The Building Safety Act: The Construction Supply Chain’s expectations post-implementation
In the wake of the Hackitt review and the BSA then receiving Royal Assent in April 2022, the construction industry is set to witness the biggest change within building safety in over 40 years. The changes it covers are expected to impact most, if not all players within the construction supply chain encompassing three major areas:
- Accountability for safety of projects outcomes;
- The appointment of new Construction Products and Building Safety Regulators; and
- A new regulatory framework.
The overhaul of regulations will now require players across the supply chain to demonstrate safety at each of the three ‘gateways’ – design/planning, construction and occupation. With close monitoring by the new Regulators, the industry is set to adapt and learn new, safer ways of building.
But there’s a challenge.
The supply chain as a whole is multi-faceted and open to risk. In this roundtable discussion, we aim to explore and understand the industry’s view on what is still required from within the supply chain, now that the Act has received assent and the secondary legislation is coming into force. Our open discussion aims to explore whether the new legislation truly answers the challenges set by Dame Judith Hackitt’s Building a Safer Future Report, by hearing opinions from various industry and players within the construction space. We will be exploring supply chain readiness and the challenges it sees on its road ahead.
