The BBA was proud to attend the 28th General Assembly of the World Federation of Technical Assessment Organisations (WFTAO), held in Copenhagen from 23–25 September 2025. Our Chief Operating Officer, Julie Bregulla, represented the BBA at the event.
Formed in 1996, The World Federation of Technical Assessment Organisations (WFTAO) is a global network that coordinates and facilitates the technical assessment of innovation in construction. It brings together officially recognised national bodies from around the world that are active in evaluating the fitness-for-purpose and quality of innovative construction products and systems.
The event brought together representatives from Denmark, Germany, Spain, the US, Canada, South Africa, Japan, Belgium and the UK.
As a longstanding member of WFTAO, the BBA values this global network’s vital role in coordinating and advancing the technical assessment of innovation in construction.
The assembly featured detailed updates from each participating organisation, alongside presentations of the latest innovations undergoing technical assessment in their respective countries. These included product categories the BBA has been active in:
- Alternative insulation materials made from hemp and other natural sources
- Innovative timber and brick construction methods
- Modular build solutions
A key topic of discussion was the upcoming EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR), set to take effect in January 2026. Members focused particularly on the potential inclusion of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), recognising their growing global relevance. We are following developments in Europe closely as the UK Government digests the feedback from the Construction Products Reform Green Paper.
