In our drive to become more efficient, and where our focus lies firmly on continuous improvement and innovation to serve our industry better, the following individuals joined the BBA Senior Management and Management team this quarter.  

Beena Tanna
Head of Client Engagement

This quarter, the BBA appointed Beena Tanna to head up the Client Engagement team. In her new role she will champion the BBA’s intention to set exemplary standards of client involvement and communication and ensure agreed delivery deadlines are met. Beena and her team will be the focal point for clients, each of whom will have a dedicated account manager and clear structure/timeline for progression through product certification and other BBA services. This close relationship will continue through follow-up activities including post-certification inspections, certificate reviews and audits.

Prof Bill Hewlett
Technical Director

Prof Hewlett joined the BBA as Technical Director where his role will involve providing technical direction for the BBA, growing its scope and influence with external stakeholders and building on its track record of bringing innovations to market while delivering high levels of customer service and a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. His experience will also be vital in further developing the BBA’s wish to support a joined-up, connected supply chain. Prof Hewlett’s career was developed in operational and design office roles before moving into business and industry leadership, with in-depth experience gained working across the highways, rail, waste, marine, petrochem and building sectors. He has particular expertise in corporate technical assurance and construction method design. Previous positions have been with Laing O’Rourke Group as Group Chief Engineer and, more recently, as Group Technical Director for Costain. He has also held additional roles, including Vice President of the Institution of Civil Engineers, founder and Chair of the Temporary Works Forum, non-executive Director of Thomas Telford, independent member of the Lloyds Register Foundation Discovering Safety Programme Board, Trustee of the Engineering Council and Chair of the Standing Committee on Structural Safety.

Tara Deller-Hoy
Operations Director

Tara brings with her solid experience in managing large operations and workforces, with particular focus on staff development and operational change. Prior to joining the BBA she spent 24 years in the rail industry, developing her career with Heathrow Express, London Underground, South West Trains and, most recently, West Midlands Trains where she held the position of Head of Workforce Strategy.
In her new role at the BBA she is responsible for directing and coordinating resources to deliver the company’s policies, goals and objectives to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction, with a focus on the implementation of client-centric business guidelines and strategies to ensure exceptional customer experience across the board. Prior to joining the BBA Tara spent 24 years in the rail industry, where her career started as a train driver for Heathrow Express, rising to become Operations Standards Manager before moving to London Overground as Head of Drivers. In 2014 she was seconded to Crossrail to recruit and train operational staff after which she moved to South West Trains, successfully updating the organisation’s management structure and overseeing 1,200 drivers and 13 depots with a budget of £55 million before moving to West Midlands Trains as Head of Workforce Strategy.
